Our moving image department is rapidly expanding and so to keep up with demand we have recently added the Canon CN-E's to our range of Cine Primes.
This comprehensive cine lens kit includes six prime lenses, covering a 14mm to 135mm in focal length range:
CN-E14mm T3.1 L F – An ultra-wide-angle fixed-length lens with spectacular 4K image quality and great creative control. Part of Canon’s range of EF Cinema prime lenses, the CN-E14mm T3.1 L F is a lightweight, compact fixed focal length lens designed for EF mounts. It offers spectacular 4K image quality and a full-frame image circle plus great low light performance and fine creative control over focusing and depth of field.
CN-E24mm T1.5 L F - A wide-angle fixed focus prime lens offering spectacular 4k image quality, the CN-E24mm T 1.5 L F provides a broader perspective to capture grand vistas or small interiors. Designed for an EF mount, it is compact, lightweight (1.2kg) and easy to use; an f/1.5 maximum aperture allows hand-held shooting in low light.
CN-E35mm T1.5 L F - A wide-angle lens with spectacular 4k image quality and a compact EF mount body.
CN-E50mm T1.3 L F - A lightweight, compact, prime lens designed for EF mounts with spectacular 4k image quality.
CN-E85mm T1.3 L F - A short telephoto prime lens with 4k image quality and a natural angle of view and perspective.
CN-E135mm T2.2 L F - A compact, EF mount telephoto lens, with 4K image quality and creative control over depth of field.
Based on Canon's popular L series stills lenses (same optics but with uniform coatings) they have many advantages over using stills lenses when shooting moving image:
- Cine Housed – better build quality to higher tolerances
- No focus by wire as on the 85mm L lens
- Hard Stops
- 300 Degree focus throw - great for hitting focus with a follow focus.
- 11 blade iris - giving smooth round bokeh
- Uniform 114mm front
- Full Frame 35mm coverage (C700) or great with S35 sensors like the C300mk2
- Virtually no breathing - unlike the L series
- 4K and above optical performance
- Lens Metadata
- Uniform Gears - So no adjusting follow focus with lens changes
These lenses are fast with T-stops of 1.3 & 1.5 for the 4 middle lenses and feature a large diameter aspheric lens and anomalous dispersion glass, working to deliver high contrast and sharp imaging from the centre of the image to the outer edges. This helps bring out the high quality of 4K cinema images.
The lenses produce warm colour tones that help to softly capture people's facial expressions and enable a better depiction of textures captured through the lens.
All in all, this is a great set of lenses for use with Canon DSLRs, C300mk2, Sony FS5M2, Sony FS7M2, Sony A7SM2 or many other cameras compatible with the EF mount.
