Betty Oxlade-Martin

I am a seasoned lighting assistant, digital technician and retoucher with a passion for bringing visuals to life. Having worked across all parts of the creative image making process I would be happy to help at any stage of your production and pride myself on my ability to work malleably to suit different photographers visions. I enjoy collaborative work, meeting new people and creating something special as a team. 

I am experience with continuous and flash lighting, Canon, Nikon and film photography including medium format. I work with both Capture One and Photoshop as well as dark room printing techniques.

EXPERIENCE

PHOTO ASSISTANT / DIGITAL TECHNICIAN I work as a photo assistant, digital technician and retoucher for a number of photographers. I have retouched food, interiors and portraits and look books for online and print. Highlights include working alongside Charlie Gates for Paul Smith SS23 (digital technician), Jesse Jenkins to create the Safiyaa SS21 look book (retoucher), Bex Day for Harpers Bazaar (second assistant), Tegen Williams on a Biig Piig x Fila Campaign for The Face (Digital Technician), and Ashley William’s SS21 look book (Lighting and Digital Assistant). I am on the stills team as a 1st assistant to Ray Burmiston, retoucher and digital technician for a number of productions including ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, ‘Call the Midwife’ and ‘His Dark Materials’. I have worked across BBC, Channel 4, Netflix and Amazon productions and have always been praised for my commitment and attention to detail throughout long shoot days. 

I recently shot the covers for ‘Head Above the Clouds’ magazine issues 1-3. Sponsored by Mind Charity for mental health, the covers featured England football player Jesse Lingard, lead singer of ‘Jungle’, Andro and Gabriella Aplin

E-COMMERCE When freelancing at The LN-CC, I fit into their full time team turning round images of new products, and meticulously following their work flow. I meet standards with ease and work hard to produce high quality images which feature their products clearly.

UNIT STILLS I have shot Unit Photography, Specials and BTS stills across a number of productions. Highlights include Geek Girl, a Netflix series with Ruby Rock Productions out in 2024.

LONDON AND PARIS FASHION WEEK I was an in-house photographer at Molly Goddard’s London Fashion Week SS20-SS22 shows, and Florentina Leitner’s SS23 Paris Fashion Week show with Limitee PR. Working closely with the team and shooting entirely on 120mm and 35mm film. 

EDITORIAL AND CAMPAIGN PHOTOGRAPHY Ive shot editorials for magazines including Lula Japan and Fword Magazine featuring a variety of brands, models and creative teams. I take each project from idea to completion and self produce every shoot. Additionally to this I have shot campaigns for brands such as Annie Officiel, What Meg Knits and Pikol Clothing.
